an Epiphany

"e·piph·a·ny" n. ... A sudden manifestation of the essence or meaning of something.

I was in my prayer closet (okay... a bench at the beach, but I was praying) and after I finished a realization came to me:

"No one needs me,

Everyone needs Jesus"

Ah, Pastor Mark, but Jesus needs you. God created you for a purpose and that may very well include your being needed by others. You mentioned a son -- surely he would disagree that you are not needed. And I enjoy reading your blog and thinking about what you've written. That may not be a "need" but it comes close.

My friend, to say that Jesus needs me (or us) is an absurd statement. Would Jesus be any less without me? Nothing I have, nothing I am, is needed by Jesus. Without Jesus I am an empty shell, nothing… ALL I posses is filthy rags, what does Jesus need of this? Everything I am, everything I do, that is good or righteous, is from Jesus.

John the Baptist said; "A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven." … "He must increase, but I must decrease."{John 3:27,30}”

Paul wrote; "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."{Phillipians 1:21}
And in His sermon to the heathens of Athens Paul said; "in him we live, and move, and have our being"{Acts 17:28}”

If my son still needs me, at the age of 21, I have failed as a father. I have failed to point him to the Lord God as his Provider. When my son was small, yes he needed his parents, just as WE need Jesus. But, even as a child, he needed Jesus, ministering thru me, as a tool, an extension of Jesus’ Love. For even as Parents we better serve our children’s needs by emptying ourselves and allowing Jesus to minister to them.

My purpose is to serve God, without reservation or limit, to empty myself to be USED of God, a living sacrifice.

Christ came to dwell in us, to fill our empty vessel with Himself and to manifest Himself, by the Holy Spirit, to the world, thereby bringing in souls that would otherwise be lost.
God so loved the world, etc. Jn 3:16 &v17

Sorry. I suppose when I said Jesus needs you, I meant more that He wants you and has a plan for you and your life. But, of couse He doesn't need anyone in the sense that He can't do without us, just in the sense that He wants us. We mortals tend to confuse needs and wants.

At the risk of using a worn-out analogy here…
Your comments bring to mind the Frog that boils to death in ignorance of it’s danger.
I know God exists, now, because I’ve met Him.
I first knew him by faith, and now by experience…
But to deny the existence of God is to deny the evidence of your own senses. Tho many quite intelligent people do exactly this. For they would rather deny the truth that admit that they sin.
Only a fool says there is no God

Belief, or lack thereof, changes nothing.

nami, you might learn something from Why I am not an Atheist, by Ravi Zacarias. It's available on tape or CD. You can even listen to part of it here. You can also do searches on Ravi's web site and read up on many other topics related to Christ and Christians.

For those who don't believe... tell me what God you don't believe in there's a good chance I don't believe in that God either. There is a God, I am not it.
